Eating Out in Appin & Oban

IN APPIN

Just a short stroll through the grounds and you are at the Creagan Inn our local pub serving excellent bar food with a cosy wood burning stove and a sun terrace overlooking the loch. For more information try their Facebook or Twitter page.

Creagan Inn

Pierhouse Hotel - in Port Appin this restaurant and bar offer a perfect vantage point from which to watch the local fisherman  landing their catch and various boats coming and going. For further info visit their website.

Castle Stalker View Café & Gift Shop - overlooks Castle Stalker and the island of Lismore the café is the perfect place to enjoy delicious freshly ground coffee, home-baking and freshly prepared lunches and snacks.

IN OBAN

There are a large number of cafes, takeaways, restaurants and bars in Oban serving a wide variety of food. A particular favourite is Poppies Garden Centre en route to Oban. It is my favourite place to eat and I cannot recommend it enough. The tearoom is perfect and their lunchtime seafood Platter is gorgeous.

Waterfront Restaurant this restaurant has gained a reputation of serving only the finest fresh food, personally sourced by the head chef. Fresh fish comes straight from the fishing boats into the fishmongers below and up into the kitchen. Crabs come from Mull, oysters from Colonsay (small and creamy), handmade cheese from Inverness, Aberdeen Angus beef and, in season, game from Kilmaronaig Estate. Specials every day are dictated by the fish available. Visit the website.

Piazza - a pizza/pasta restaurant on a pier in beautiful Oban Bay in Scotland, with spectacular views to Kerrera, Mull and the townscape of Oban. Piazza has a great atmosphere whatever the occasion! Every dish is cooked to order, using the finest ingredients they can acquire. We can recommend the Lasagne and all the Pizzas (we have tried them all!) Visit the website.

Eeusk - Ee-Usk means 'Fish' (Phonetic Gaelic), and fish is what they are famous for. They aim to bring local catches fresh to your table. All of the shellfish is locally caught and delivered alive to Ee-Usk. Their wet fish is local with the exception of Sea Bass. The MacLeod family  who live in Appin have been operating seafood restaurants locally for over 20 years. Eeusk and Piazza are both owned by them and sit adjacent to one another on the North Pier in Oban. Visit the website.

Coast - Coast is a contemporary restaurant on Oban’s main street. Located next to the Oban Art Gallery, Coast is within easy walking distance from the railway station, main esplanade and waterfront. Visit the website.

Oban Steakhouse -  A pleasant & friendly welcome awaits you at the Oban steakhouse restaurant, the only restaurant specialising in steak dishes in the whole of Argyll! Newly established in 2009 they have quickly became renowned for an excellent range of steak dishes. George Street Oban-  Tel 01631 562954.

NORTH OF APPIN

Lochleven Seafood Café  -   Sitting on the shores of Loch Leven, the Seafood Café grew from its roots as a shellfish distribution centre. Public demand for the seafood arriving at its doors each day led to the creation of a relaxed and informal bistro led by head chef Barry Moran, formerly of Andrew Fairlie's kitchen at Gleneagles. Mussels, oysters, lobster, crab and razor clams make up the majority of the menu, though meat and vegetarian options are available. Visit the website.
